coming to where
sidewalks meet frames awaiting
new cement
why do they look so
happy when their sadness might
at last be captured?
blanks entice—
empty fields daring me to
walk unbidden
a morning thinking
of gorillas amassing
mass and calm
twilight crowds with gray—
sun just finds its way between
so many layers
they always wonder
how long you spent—not why
you wanted to
breezes rising
from nothing—the deep breaths of
an unburied soul
thinking elsewheres won’t
remain so—your rocky crags
inside my eyes
not long now skies will
harden in frost—and I’ll find
my place in nature
